-How you face a character so recognized in the theatre?
-There it starts one of the issues of the work. What Don Juan that we know? The truth is that there are many different Don Juans, even though what Zorrilla wrote is a depraved, getting their goals above everything and everyone, even above itself. This text focuses on don juan being as a destroyer. With respect to what is usually associated with the character, moves away from romantic, seductive, and amorous man because he lies when he speaks and kills to treason.
-Has been a challenge to face it from the dramatic work?
-It is a local character, a classic known to all. But he stopped me by surprise because since we represented 'La Averia', also with Blanca (Portillo), the director, she already said that she wanted to put to the Tenorio on the site/stage. We were talking and did mature work for three years. Personally, I've seen pretty lady in the role, because she had not seen it represented too and did not cause me clash between what was known and what called for Blanca to do so. We put our point of view and it came out.
-Do you think that what Portillo and Mayorga is trying to remove the more dirty and evil of Don Juan?
-Yes, the dirtier and more bad. But it is that I do not see in another. Not even changes for the sake of, changes because Doña Inés saves him. An Ines who had been kidnapped by Don Juan after this have been lying with the wife of Luis Mejia. As a society, think that there is not bad or dirty part in Don Juan as we portrays, and more if we consider him as a hero or a myth. In this case, ghosts do not appear, but they are inside his head, on his conscience and do not let him after years in peace and what lead to a fatal outcome. As we said before, it is a revision of the text. It provides another view, bitter, not the heroic and seductive.
-Does the public understand this meaning that proposes the work?
-Radically Yes. We are experiencing a mind-blowing experience with the public in all the cities to which we are going and that, fortunately, we have been filled. It is a work that excites, you laugh because Blanca (Portillo) puts a point of humor and that the public understands it, along with the part that shows of Don Juan. Sometimes I feel like a singer at a concert when the public gets to applaud at the end.
-How is that as contemporary environment, scenic and musical, this 'Don Juan Tenorio's level?
-It is in a neutral space, at the beginning it illuminated with cold, blue and grey, colours that are becoming hot with red colors. The scene is set in a cemetery and we are the actors themselves that are changing scenery between scenes. There comes the live music by Elena Martin, who sings what she sees in the seasoned pregnant and mourning scene.
-Is it a risk to travel with a cast of fifteen actors participating in the representation?
-It is a risky but worthy of praise and more with the selection process that has been followed. Along with some who already have some experience and expertise, we searched the last courses of dramatic art from schools in Madrid, Valladolid and Seville for new talents who would like to work with us. There have been several as the actress representing Doña Inés, Ariana Martínez, who despite being chosen in Madrid, Alicante. The experience and the new people have joined and we do an election.
-Do you charge more relevant text, currently considering that Spain remains plagued 'tenorios'?
-A classic is a classic for something, because the years pass and will always run. History now means not only from love, but from the consequences of the acts that are comment. -It is always a pleasure to come to Alicante, but with this date and this work, much more. Whenever I come here with other representations the public responds beautifully, as happened the last time with 'La Averia'. It's also great because I've seen the weather forecast and we can soak up the Sun (laughs).
-What ever run for the theatre and more within a production that moves away from the commercial as the stars in it?
-The cultural industry, in general, is in a difficult time. A VAT of 21% is completely ideological, not economical as it is. And as the entries do not have climbing so people continue going to the theatre and cinema, it has repercussions in the theaters and producers. However, the level of intellectual and creative makers are in great crisis. We need to have things. We are 'homocuentacuentos (Same story tellers)' and the theatre is now more necessary than ever. However, this structure and economic situation causes a great job insecurity, not only in the theater, but in other trades like journalism.
