About 400 spectators attended the Buero Vallejo who scheduled the Don Juan of Blanca Portillo, with version of Juan Mayorga. • The show, two hours and twenty, buries the myth underlining its most despicable side and rewrites the role of Dona Ines.

Blanca Portillo has stripped all the work of Zorrilla's prudishness and has given the classic, with the help of the remarkable reading of Juan Mayorga for the viewer today, a twist, a few decibels more if preferred. He was dressed in jeans, he has put knee and has armed with short sword and gun. He did as Baz Luhrmann in the famous film version of Romeo and Juliet, Portillo has decided to bear his personal and contemporary review of this drama of the late sixteenth where fleshing Don Juan Tenorio, leaving their bare bones.

The show, is a joint production of the National Classical Theatre Company, arrived last night at the Teatro Buero Vallejo (or half full: little public for a city that each year goes out to see the 'Don Juan' Mendoza representing Gentes de Guadalajara). It dared to compare it with the original and is compulsory leave prejudices aside to fully enjoy this intense theatrical scenery -of attractive-, showing the raw soul and characters, wicked radicals. In this high voltage Don Juan, sex and violence underlines: Dona Brigida Ciutti masturbates coupled with Don Juan; Don Gonzalo de Ulloa hits a cake to the Mother Abbess, which inevitably leads to fall to the ground; is encañonan with guns, punches are another word ... this is the most despicable Don Juan of a world that is too.

In this chronicle of life ephemeral, welcome is given by the spirits. Dressed in black suits and white masks, they seem to warn the public that they live among us. The work begins with a kind of time travel, featuring Don Juan died between spirits who walk while singing voice that narrates the first scene is heard. The wonderful voice of actress Eva Martin, which became pregnant. She assumes that spirit of Tenorio, who is responsible for introducing each frame with sad, heartbreaking songs while scene changes occur.

Two hours and twenty lasting assembly are not made due to heavy pace that make the characters printing. All are fine. Beatriz Argüello shine as Bridget-woman take- weapons and Jose Luis Garcia-Perez who plays Don Juan. Despite his gruff voice, which sometimes made incomprehensible text says the character very well, also in the second part where he gets complicated, drunk, delirious and fascinating. Ariana Martinez also shines as Dona Ines. Candida unrecognizable at first and then his character is completely re-visioned and amazed that although redeem his Don Juan, his spirit was away from all candor and sweetness. He falls in love, yes. But that does not stop him that her lover is a miserable. Sorry, yes, but not forgotten. And it shows launching a final spit on the corpse of Don Juan, which is now the road to hell. The myth falls. It is buried forever. It is the victory of honesty on the moral turpitude.

And in the end, the audience applauded much to this Don Juan, which even garnered some bravo. And faith, by Jove !, which was not easy.

Teatro de Rojas, last night had the level force of an artistic cast. Improvement and a step for a work, the most represented of the national drama, which still has much to discover. Yesterday it was discovered what a rogue and cruel Don Juan is. The captivating with the consciousness that attacks and squeeze the Joker without values, for which life is nothing more than a mere fun.

Superb staging fleeing from romanticism to present a contemporary and functional scenery where the movement and the choreography of actors with a musical backdrop and the voice of Eva Martin give way to action.

Blanca Portillo unmasks the Tenorio and she uses the parallel scene where the young Doña Inés, dam of love by ignorance, reads the verses that Don Juan writes without feeling, counting syllables to find the gravel and the rhyme. A Tenorio, that the wrong concept of Manhood and a Dona Ines who is not seduced, but deceived, give a twist to José Zorrilla text, to the end, presented to reflect without falling asleep in the formal beauty that the stage directors had given so far.

Abuse and corruption. Violence and tension. Fear and extortion. Situations brought to the present day with an outstanding verse that surprises by its weight and truth. Plus, when the maestro Vicente Fuentes is located behind the work that actors and actresses have made to speak in verse.

Talk to not to recite. Conversations in verse that gets out to the than known 'would it not true, angel of love, in this pure secluded shore the moon shines and you can breathe better?' sound not to love, but misleading.

José Luis García-Pérez is given to the character Tenorio, in an outstanding way with that mocking and despicable which the viewer ends up rejecting. -How you face a character so recognized in the theatre?

-There it starts one of the issues of the work. What Don Juan that we know? The truth is that there are many different Don Juans, even though what Zorrilla wrote is a depraved, getting their goals above everything and everyone, even above itself. This text focuses on don juan being as a destroyer. With respect to what is usually associated with the character, moves away from romantic, seductive, and amorous man because he lies when he speaks and kills to treason.

-Has been a challenge to face it from the dramatic work?

-It is a local character, a classic known to all. But he stopped me by surprise because since we represented 'La Averia', also with Blanca (Portillo), the director, she already said that she wanted to put to the Tenorio on the site/stage. We were talking and did mature work for three years. Personally, I've seen pretty lady in the role, because she had not seen it represented too and did not cause me clash between what was known and what called for Blanca to do so. We put our point of view and it came out.

-Do you think that what Portillo and Mayorga is trying to remove the more dirty and evil of Don Juan?

-Yes, the dirtier and more bad. But it is that I do not see in another. Not even changes for the sake of, changes because Doña Inés saves him. An Ines who had been kidnapped by Don Juan after this have been lying with the wife of Luis Mejia. As a society, think that there is not bad or dirty part in Don Juan as we portrays, and more if we consider him as a hero or a myth. In this case, ghosts do not appear, but they are inside his head, on his conscience and do not let him after years in peace and what lead to a fatal outcome. As we said before, it is a revision of the text. It provides another view, bitter, not the heroic and seductive.

-Does the public understand this meaning that proposes the work?

-Radically Yes. We are experiencing a mind-blowing experience with the public in all the cities to which we are going and that, fortunately, we have been filled. It is a work that excites, you laugh because Blanca (Portillo) puts a point of humor and that the public understands it, along with the part that shows of Don Juan. Sometimes I feel like a singer at a concert when the public gets to applaud at the end.

-How is that as contemporary environment, scenic and musical, this 'Don Juan Tenorio's level?

-It is in a neutral space, at the beginning it illuminated with cold, blue and grey, colours that are becoming hot with red colors. The scene is set in a cemetery and we are the actors themselves that are changing scenery between scenes. There comes the live music by Elena Martin, who sings what she sees in the seasoned pregnant and mourning scene.

-Is it a risk to travel with a cast of fifteen actors participating in the representation?

-It is a risky but worthy of praise and more with the selection process that has been followed. Along with some who already have some experience and expertise, we searched the last courses of dramatic art from schools in Madrid, Valladolid and Seville for new talents who would like to work with us. There have been several as the actress representing Doña Inés, Ariana Martínez, who despite being chosen in Madrid, Alicante. The experience and the new people have joined and we do an election.

-Do you charge more relevant text, currently considering that Spain remains plagued 'tenorios'?

-A classic is a classic for something, because the years pass and will always run. History now means not only from love, but from the consequences of the acts that are comment. And of course, Spain remains plagued Don Juans and what is worse, looking in many cases as something positive, as a heroic. Only I see something good, that is at least hypocritical and almost from the first lines recognizes that sows bitterness where it passes. That if, as an actor is a pleasure to represent it and I am enjoying it very much.

-A good scenario is the main to celebrate the world theatre day with a classic as well.

-It is always a pleasure to come to Alicante, but with this date and this work, much more. Whenever I come here with other representations the public responds beautifully, as happened the last time with 'La Averia'. It's also great because I've seen the weather forecast and we can soak up the Sun (laughs).

-What ever run for the theatre and more within a production that moves away from the commercial as the stars in it?

-The cultural industry, in general, is in a difficult time. A VAT of 21% is completely ideological, not economical as it is. And as the entries do not have climbing so people continue going to the theatre and cinema, it has repercussions in the theaters and producers. However, the level of intellectual and creative makers are in great crisis. We need to have things. We are 'homocuentacuentos (Same story tellers)' and the theatre is now more necessary than ever. However, this structure and economic situation causes a great job insecurity, not only in the theater, but in other trades like journalism.

He has a very common name, but his truth on stage, or onto a film or television screen makes him a unique actor. Genuine.

José Luis García Pérez (Seville, 1972) stars in the adaptation of 'Don Juan Tenorio', it has written by Juan Mayorga and directed by the actress Blanca Portillo. This assembly, bearing the seal of the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, will be staged tomorrow, Sunday 15 March, at 8 pm, at the Auditorio Maestro Padilla in the capital.

It comes to Almeria this Sunday with "Don Juan Tenorio". How it has faced with this classic Spanish literature been?

We raised it from a totally different point of view. Anyone who wants to come and see this classic Tenorio, with sword and pen, a man who is redeemed by love, goes wrong. This Don Juan is a Don Juan, very different, perhaps more glued to the actual text of José Zorrilla. He is someone who already in his first monologue defines himself by saying that in the last year he has killed 72 people and has sold thirty and so many women. Our Don Juan is not a hero, rather we try to demystify a Spanish myth that does not have any sense for us.

And he has been living under the orders of an actress as Blanca Portillo?

It is not the first time that she guides me. Already she did in 'La Averia', a montage of a couple of years ago. Precisely being toured Andalucia with that function was when we did the project, make this so hard Tenorio. It is a great pleasure to work with Blanca Portillo. It is a great pleasure and a difficulty, I mean. She is undoubtedly the best actress that you can take in the face, so the bar is very high. It is very motivating and, at the same time,very demanding. I would point me with her what it was.

It is forged as actor in the Centro Andaluz de Teatro, so it is perfectly Almería as a spectator's performing arts audiences. How is it?

I know it perfectly. For me to start this tour at the Teatro Cervantes of Malaga and then go to the Auditorio Maestro Padilla in Almería is an award. It's like coming home. And so I am to the whole public in Andalusia, it is the house of public. It is as if the Union Deportiva Almería play in its field, everything is easier.

The night promises.

The evening promises much. I here to beg, ask and invite the people of Almería to come to the theatre to see a completely different Tenorio. So far we have counted all the functions for full, and the public love much.

At a difficult time for the culture and for all areas in general, is in a better professional time combining theatre, cinema and television.

I feel very lucky, I can not ask for anything more. At a time like this where my labor, like so many others, lives this crisis in a way especially hard, I am a person with good luck. I wake up everyday thanking. I do not believe nor deserve it. I work more and so pretty when my fellows, and others, go through difficulties of all kinds.

And how you digested the change from one medium to another as an actor? You find this transition difficult?

I spend it working very well and I think that's the key. They are clearly different media, but the bottom line is the same: have truth and say things with feeling and depth, although it is a comedy. You have to enjoy what you're doing from your real feeling. Then each project has its details that make it different, but ultimately the truth of the actor is always the same. Larger or smaller, so you get to the last row of a theater or see on a big screen.

A couple of months ago you visited the drafting of the voice during the filming of a scene from "Lejos del mar", film by Imanol Uribe that stars along with Elena Anaya. Do you remember the experience?

I especially had so much very well. Journalism is something present in my life becauseI have always had a devotion for that office. It seems to me a wonderful profession. And I do not say that I had not finished being a journalist. The day of the shooting was great and all the journalists were very well.

During the filming, both you and Elena Anaya showed your concentration before the dozens of people who were outstanding in their work. What is the secret to get away from everything that happens around the actor?

It is our part of the work. Returning to the metaphor of football, since I am very football fan and very bético, I think I have a responsibility to the team, as there is a very large area with a group of people who depend on that action, records on goal at the right moment. So I try to be at the right time with the energy and the necessary concentration.

The work that demystifies the "Don Juan Tenorio" from José Zorilla, raises the curtain in the Teatro Cervantes of Málaga (12, 13 and 14 March) directed by Blanca Portillo and with a cast led by José Luis Garcia-Perez, from Seville, whom criticism qualifies as brilliant in the role of Don Juan, winning as best actor in different festivals, is one of the best-known faces on the Spanish scene, thanks to his work in films (Cachorro, Va a ser que nadie es perfecto, A puerta fria), theatre (La avería, Viejos tiempos, El gran teatro del mundo, Diario de un loco) and television (Guante Blanco, Amar en tiempos revueltos,Vive Cantando). He currently combines his performance of the play with the shooting of Carlos, Rey Emperador, a series to be released soon in TVE and where he plays as Hernán cortes.

This week you put on stage, at the Teatro Cervantes as Don Juan Tenorio, where you demystify the mythical character of Zorrilla, what Blanca Portillo does to the original work?

Absolutely everything. The text is exactly what wrote by Zorrilla and the only thing we do is read it from a point of view, our, we believe that it is closest to the author himself, in which Don Juan is not a hero, but a be quite depraved.

In this theatrical adaptation, that it is shown Tenorio as an assassin and abusive, how you defend at such character?

It is wonderful. As an actor it is wonderful, as a person seems to me more or less obnoxious as many other fictional characters, but to represent it, is a best gift has given to me as my job.

The work is the subject of critical acclaim, would you accept that it is the reason for the success?

I hope it is because we do it fairly well (laughs). I think really it's OK to call Don Juan Tenorio by name. In addition, I believe that the work is visually very spectacular and it is represented by a number of colleagues that are a wonderful cast. All that makes a very nice theater package and people are enjoying it.

As we have said before, is a version of Blanca Portillo, which already agreed in 2011 with La Avería, how it is to work under her orders?

It is fantastic. Blanca portillo is a great friend and excellent Director. She is a Director who manages to get as an actor a little beyond what you think that it is possible for you and that makes you grow, with which I have only gratitude towards her.

You are currently filming series Carlos, Rey Emperador, where you are playing the role of Hernán Cortes. What can you tell us about this character?

Hernan Cortes was a desire that it took me to make an absolute adventure. He was a person that was now adapted to the unknown people with improper courage, but as every human being has its contradictions. In this case you had them big and with the pace of life was changing in many ways, but I like to see it as a great adventurer.

How, you are combining the filming of the series with the long tour of Don Juan Tenorio?

Sleeping a little and traveling much. It is complicated, but unemployment in my area is very large, as in society in general, and this is a gift.

Yesterday the newspaper ABC published on cover, a supposed descent cultural VAT (from 21% to 10%) by the Government in the election period, do you think that they will finally meet it?

They have said it, good, that it is one thing that arise and who do not know when will happen, with which does not give a greater value. I believe that culture and science have been two of the large disadvantaged of this situation and both generate a society and a future for a country, so these are just lost years.

Being one of the highlights of the programming of the Teatro Cervantes of Málaga from this season, it serves with a Director who already surprised us more than pleasantly surprised with "La Averia", Blanca Portillo, and gives us back to José Luís Garcia-Perez, playing Don Juan Tenorio, that not "Don Juan" though the work is called and we have thus learned of his history classes and what we are taught reading. Q: listening to the press conference of the programming of the Teatro Cervantes, it was glad of you to come with this "Don Juan", but after researching what we present, the thing isn't going to be as I thought???

José Luis García-Pérez: The "Juan" that we are going to present is the closest "Juan" both Blanca and I, to the actual text of Zorrilla where is portrayed from the beginning with a lot of clarity. In the first text first thing he says is "wherever I went, I left a bitter memory of me". Most of course, like water. Certainly, we do not see him as a myth or as a hero, if not as a depraved being seeking to achieve their objectives above who you are, even, and this is the great drama, above itself.

Q: Is it you have reason because really when you study this book, they give you that romantic version?

José Luis García-Pérez: In the case of "Don Juan", Apart from that as society were again portrayed, if for us this and more after having spent a day as the "women's day", it is wrong that "Don Juan" is the national hero. In addition, it merges the romantic style of Zorrilla which is a literary style with personality, that it has little to do. You can write horror but talk about a heroic character. In this case, it is a deeply terrifying character that is written in a romantic style.

Q: When you did "La Averia", I know you said to Blanca Portillo that you wanted to make your Assembly of "Don Juan Tenorio", that you already had explained the intention which wanted to do?

José Luis García-Pérez: This is spoken from the beginning. I do not know exactly if it was in Malaga or Seville. After making a "La Averia" function, she was eager to put her hand to the text of "Don Juan" and for me being from Seville, I was very much liked the idea. Even more I liked the idea of calling "Don Juan" by name. I was interested in turning the tables to which so many times have seen of pens, swords, and some romanticism redeemed.

Q: will this give standing to go for her hand to other universal myths?

José Luis García-Pérez: hopefully. I believe that the texts and literature, universal myths are there to be interpreted. No author gave a program representing its function. The texts are to be used and to be seen with the eyes of today day and, from there, to analyse them, make them and give a new proposal to the public.

Q: like many people thought as I do, that to give the "Don Juan" which we all know, you'd have the candy as an actor until you discover "Juan Tenorio" that we present..

José Luis García-Pérez: no doubt about it. One thing is that we have it from a way to understand the character, and see that it is not just a hero and another thing is it's not a candy, that is absolutely, I spend it, making it. Another thing is to not be with him but theatrically speaking it is a wonderful character and is a spectacular function.

Q: The surprise comes not only with this approach, if not also with the staging, costumes....

José Luis García Pérez: Theatre package is made for surprise, have an impact and carry the message that it wants to bring to the Viewer. We do the work while maintaining the text absolutely faithful to Zorrilla. We bring it to the contemporary, because Spain, Andalusia and the world, in general, is full of "Don Juanes" and "Doña Juanas". We believe that it is a work that, told today, also makes sense.

Q: The message you want to give to the public, is let to a Don Juan and Doña Juana, and love us as people?

José Luis García-Pérez: Failure would do, without a doubt. It is fine, that it is already the world of "Don Juanes" and "Doña Juanas".

Q: What are those letters you have tattooed on the neck that can be seen on the official website of the play, www.donjuan2014.com??

José Luis García Pérez: Everything is removable. There are many tattoos on stage. There was a principle of this function, where we wanted to tell this "Don Juan" is close to the world of maras. Because in reality, there are two bands that concur at the beginning of the function on the gamble, that develops further drama. It is the band of Luis Mejia and Juan Tenorio's band. These two bands have their own symbols and hence those tattoos.

Q: Since we were waiting for an interpretation yours more Galan (handsome), not could you give us soon any?

José Luis García-Pérez: He will play whatever. At the moment, which plays is this. In what I'm doing now on TV, it is rather more "donjuanesco" in the old sense of the word. Fortunately, I have good luck to each character that I will be offering has fairly little to do with the former. Q: How do I know that TV project is?

José Luis García-Pérez: The continuation of "Isabel la Católica" is "Carlos V, Emperor"and there are a number of main characters and one of them is Hernán Cortes and that'll be me. For myth, Hernán Cortes. Although this also had much danger.

Q: When will you produce, that theatrical trio between José Manuel Seda, Álex O´Dogherty and you?

José Luis García Pérez: We are at the wattsap have a group called "Rat Pack marismeño". Hopefully one day we get that opportunity. It would be wonderful.

Q: Film projects that you have "Lejos del mar" with Imanol Uribe and "El pais del miedo"...

José Luis García-Pérez: "El pais del miedo" is to be released soon and "Lejos del mar '' is in festivals where it is brand new, because it is a film that will have impact and that it has power, so it will be in the summer or after they are looking for.

Q: Do you obey your dream, that already to address "La señorita Julia"?

José Luis García-Pérez: The only thing that I really need, and which today is a pleasure, is time to finish the version and get into production. It is the thought, to the cast, but I need time for all this. But I'm looking forward to it.

José Luis García-Pérez: I laughed very much this morning. It doesn't seem that you're poorly designed at all, they are very concerned and very worried about the cultural industry in Spain. Come on.
